Re-Time Capsule

This project attempts to build up a subjective universal framework, through a scientific and imaginative formulation of the future. It can potentially hold the totality of knowledge branching out from one individual subject or object.

 

The project starts with the proposition: communicating the very personal and emotional letter that my father wrote to me to a distant future, where concepts start to disappear. I responded with a series of deep investigations into the internet, concerning what everything means and connotes. Through structuring the research, I came up with the ReTC framework:

 

Re-Time Capsule [ReTC] is a concept, a framework, and a process of learning, with constantly expanding archives of concepts and meanings, expanding from any core. The CORE can be anything since every object, expression, or life embeds information. It follows the structure of a 2-dimensional lattice with 2 axis:

 

The time axis provides scenarios of the past, present and future, in exponential scales; and

 

The concept axis is a selection of ideas to expand on from the core.

 

Each intersection point with a specific time and concept is then further augmented with its connection to other knowledge and information in the world, in the medium specific to the time.

 

The ReTC initially takes the form of the most common way of communication at the time of its creation, while its form and contents iterate, adjust, and adapt as time progresses. Since human’s sense of time is linear, the ReTC is necessarily the archive of the past in the present, with personal and egoistic projections into the future. This is a reflection of the desire for knowledge without any meaning in human nature. Essentially, science, philosophy, research, the society is built with this fundamental meaningless curiosity.
